A Therapist for Asian and Asian American experiences

Immigrating to another country or being a child of an immigrant is a powerful experience; one that is multilayered, difficult, and complicated to navigate daily, yearly, and over a lifetime. Maybe you have struggled to understand a new culture, cultural norms, language, laws, familial and social dynamics, and more. Although exciting opportunities arise from immigration, so can much intergenerational trauma; you have faced many difficulties in trying to marry the values of your culture of origin and the culture of your new home. You may feel misunderstood, marginalized, lost, and unable to connect with others around you, including your own family.

Moving to a new country and culture can be incredibly challenging, especially when combined with other life changes, such as pursuing a university degree or accepting an international job offer. Learning to acclimatize to a new school system or workplace culture in addition to an entirely new country can be completely overwhelming, and you may need some help from a therapist who understands your struggles.

I have experience working with BIPOC and immigrant populations. As an international student myself, I have professional and personal experience of the challenge of being a foreigner in a new country and acclimating to a different lifestyle, culture, and immigration issues. As a therapist, I specialize in international working professionals and international students as I draw on my personal and professional experience dealing with acculturation and adjustment issues.

有时候我觉得寻求心理治疗的过程就像是体验心灵按摩,不是只有在有心理疾病的时候才需要治疗。压力大的时候可以减压,感觉身心不一致的时候可以让自己找回掌控感,心灵痛苦煎熬的时候可以缓解伤痛。而不同的治疗师有不同的风格,不同的来访者也有不同的性格喜好,所以有时候需要体验过不同的治疗师才能明白自己适合的是什么样的方式。不管你曾经有没有接受过心理治疗,如果你仍在寻找合适的治疗师,无论你是否选择我,我都希望你能够多给自己一些机会,多去尝试,不要放弃寻找。你一定会找到自己需要的帮助的。

Therapy with Me: An Individualized, Creative, and Culturally-Sensitive Approach

Healing happens in many different ways, making therapy a personal experience. As a therapist, my goal is to take an individualized, creative, and culturally sensitive approach to therapy and tailor your experience to your needs.

I use tools and concepts from different types of therapy such as

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – focusing on how patterns of emotions, thoughts, and behavior influence you
  • Existential Therapy – reflecting on your experiences and helping you find meaning, purpose, and strengths.
  • EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) – helping you overcoming painful memories that are still affecting you

I also draw from my experience navigating in multicultural settings, being in an intercultural marriage relationship, and working as a school teacher working closely with youths and families.

At the end, the most important thing is finding the integrative healing approaches that make sense to you in your life.

First, we would first get to know each other and subsequently co-create an environment where you feel safe and comfortable to share and explore. We will talk about your needs, goals, and how you would like to be supported and guided. We will utilize various creative tools such as experiments, art, mindfulness exercises, and games to explore your self-expression and create a new toolbox of coping skills. I create a compassionate, positive, and patient atmosphere in all sessions.

I am a bilingual Mandarin speaking Chinese therapist in an inter-racial marriage. I experience many cultural differences in my daily life.

I grew up with different boundaries, communication methods, and social norms, all of which impact my current life. I struggled to find my place in my family and community while still maintaining a sense of self. I strive to use my childhood and familial experiences to help others who are facing similar challenges. As a therapist, I create a safe, non-judgmental space for you, no matter what challenges you face.

Navigating Anxiety, Stress, and Depression for Children & Families

You are a parent who cares deeply about your child or teen. It has been so hard seeing your child struggle with anxiety, stress, or depression. Parenting has never been easy, but this has been extra challenging.

You want to provide support for your child but are not sure how and are feeling stuck. What you and your child may need is professional guidance from a caring therapist.

For Children and Teens: A therapist provides a non-biased place to talk about things that matter to your child, subjects they might feel shy or uncomfortable talking about with family. In human development, children and teens naturally have stages where they do not want to share everything with their parents. They try to establish their own identity or are worried about how their feelings will affect their family. A safe space with a therapist can help your child process their thoughts and emotions, learn healthy coping and communication skills, and gain a more adaptive perspective on life. I can be that person for your child. I have years of experience helping children and teens with anxiety, stress, depression, and trauma heal and find new meaning and perspective in their lives.

For Parents: Parenting is challenging. When your child is experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, or trauma, it is painful to watch. I can help. For years I worked with many children and parents as a school teacher and children’s therapist. I provide support, guidance, and coaching to help parents understand their child or teen better. I help parents develop parenting and communication skills and find better perspectives on their family life. As your therapist, I can help you become a better parent to your child and reach a new level of understanding and progress in your family dynamic.
