Hello. Nice to meet you.

My name is Jin Sun Yi. I’m a licensed therapist with the state of California. I know it was not easy for you to be here but I’m glad you’re here.

What It’s Like…

Throughout our lives, we encounter unexpected changes whether we initiate or not. In these changes, we sometimes feel like we’re in a maze and circling the same place over and over with no sign of the finish line. We feel depressed and hopeless and do not know who to talk to in these kinds of changes. We feel like an island with no one around especially because of the cultural differences and some language barriers.

Well, you’re not the only one but most of us feel the same but we just do not talk about it. We’ve learned to deal with it and put on a happy face.

Remember, you do not have to hide behind a happy face, but you can talk about it, process it, and you can live the life you deserve that feels more authentic to you.

Do You Feel Like You’re Stuck in the Middle? Between two or more cultures and expectations?

Therapy for Multicultural and Multigenerational Individual and Families

As a 1.5 generation Korean American immigrant, I understand and can relate to the multicultural and multigenerational issues that many Asian families experience. Many immigrant families are encouraged to adapt and acculturate to American ways. And yet, the families also reserve and expect their children to hold obligations, rituals, beliefs from their home country. It can confusing and overwhelming when families start to have cultural in understanding each other. Navigating two or more cultures, expectations, identities, languages is not easy. Through utilizing my own personal and professional experiences and with an evidence-based approach of understanding family systems, I can help guide you individually or as a family through the maze and find the finish line.

Are You struggling with Anxiety and Depression symptoms?

You may be experiencing anxiety and depression currently and are being told, “why can’t you just get over it?” And maybe even seen by your family or friends that you are weak or just “not trying.” But in reality, you are trying. You are doing what you can, but it just has been difficult. You want to live a life where you are not overwhelmed by worries or feeling down. You just want to feel “normal…”

I am here to let you know… there is nothing wrong with you or how you have been feeling.

Many people struggle with anxiety and depression symptoms in their lifetime. What makes a difference is whether you have the right support and guidance through your anxiety or depression struggles.

You don’t have to walk through what sometimes feels like a lonely life process by yourself. All of you are welcome in our therapy room, and I can be that support and guide for you.

Are You Experiencing Life Transitions, Aging, Grief and Loss Across the Lifespan?

Are you ready to turn a page on your life journey? Do you feel scared to turn the page because of the unknown future? Well, you’re not the only one.

Some of the common life transitions are: Getting married, having a first child, going to college for the first year, getting a first job or changing jobs, becoming ill or disabled; losing someone special and retiring, etc.

Dealing and coping with these changes could be overwhelming and sometimes feel hopeless.

I can help you navigate with these transitions by recognizing your strengths, identifying your values and your life goals, learning to express your feelings, and identifying support systems in your life and develop some self-care activities to help you transition smoothly.

I recognize that you are a strong and resilient individual and you can get through this.

Just remember, you’re in control and you can make the changes.

Therapy for Caregivers: Are you caring for a loved one? Do you feel burned out?

I have worked in a field where I met many people who are caring for their elderly parents or their loved ones. It’s a 24/7-hour responsibility and it is exhausting. I have witnessed the caregivers feeling depressed and sad. They feel frustrated and guilty at the same time because they feel resentment towards the filial duties.

I empathize with you and I understand what you’re going through. Please do not feel guilty because you’re doing a good job. I know that you just needed an assurance.

You can reach out to me and let’s work together to alleviate some of the stress and burn out feelings.

Therapy with me is a safe space where I focus to empower you to live a life you want.

Therapy in Korean /
