Hi, I am HyungJun (Andy)!

There are often many obstacles to starting therapy, so I am glad you are here and have made the choice to take this first step.

As a 1.5-generation Korean immigrant who came to the U.S. following my parents’ decision, I often asked myself if I was truly “Korean enough” or “American enough.” Embracing both of these identities took deep personal work and a lot of reflection, but I now see them as unique gifts. Adapting to a completely different culture was a huge shock, and experiencing discrimination from classmates in school was undeniably difficult.

Navigating these personal struggles ultimately led me to this profession. Today, I am passionate about helping people heal from past trauma, PTSD, and relationship issues. I also deeply enjoy working with individuals navigating life transitions, depression, grief and loss, school-related challenges, identity crises, LGBTQIA+ issues, neurodivergence, spirituality, religious trauma, and existential concerns.

During my graduate studies, I majored in spiritual and depth psychology (Jungian), which integrates spirituality into the therapeutic process. Having also trained at a psychodynamic clinic, I welcome anyone who is interested in insight-oriented therapy and looking to understand themselves on a deeper level.

Working with Me

My priority in therapy is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space grounded in unconditional positive regard, validation, and accurate empathy.

Once you feel safe enough to share your struggles and narrative, I will work collaboratively to offer empathetic reflections and gentle interpretations. This process helps you uncover the roots of your feelings and thoughts, fostering a deeper understanding of yourself.

Drawing on a psychodynamic/IFS approach, I believe that many of our actions are driven by unexplored, unconscious desires or many different parts. Together, we will gently examine these underlying experiences to help you gain a profound understanding of who you are.

Emotions also frequently manifest as bodily sensations or physical pain. As we explore these bodily sensations, we will learn to name these feelings together. By practicing the acceptance of difficult emotions, you can build emotional tolerance and regain a sense of control over your life.

Furthermore, our internal thoughts and feelings are often shaped by external messages from our past, culture, family, friends, or the media. I will support you in differentiating these outside voices from your own, empowering you to reconnect with your authentic, true self.

I also recognize that sometimes, you simply need immediate, practical tools to cope with overwhelming feelings. Whenever it feels helpful for you, we can explore and integrate skills from DBT and CBT to help you find relief, stability, and grounding during moments of crisis.

Therapy for Trauma & PTSD

Trauma profoundly impacts how we view the world; it is not just a painful memory but an experience that remains stored within both the brain and body. Together, we will gently examine how these past experiences show up in your present life. Our first step will always be exploring the safest ways for you to stabilize and slowly rebuild a sense of trust.

Feeling unsafe, vulnerable, overwhelmed by intense emotions, or completely numb from time to time can be incredibly challenging and isolating to navigate alone.

As we build a physically and psychologically secure space for you, we will collaboratively uncover the underlying narratives of your trauma and understand how they have shaped your life. By acknowledging these impacts, we will work together to help you reclaim your sense of control and empowerment.

To support your healing journey, I integrate IFS, somatic awareness, narrative therapy, and techniques like Brainspotting to safely process trauma. Whenever needed, we will also draw upon DBT skills to help you practice emotional regulation and find grounding when trauma responses arise.

Therapy for Anxiety

Anxiety frequently manifests physically in our bodies, showing up as muscle tension, a pounding heart, stomach aches, sweating, shakiness, shortness of breath, or an overwhelming sense of panic.

In my clinical experience, anxiety often stems from a deep sense of uncertainty and a feeling of being out of control. Because the root causes of anxiety are unique to each person, we will work collaboratively to gently explore where yours originates. Drawing on a psychodynamic approach, we will uncover these underlying reasons together, offering meaningful interpretations to help normalize and validate your experience.

At the same time, I understand the need for immediate relief. Whenever helpful, we will integrate CBT approaches, grounding skills, and mindfulness practices. These practical tools are designed to help you regain your sense of control, build tolerance toward difficult emotions, and navigate anxiety with greater ease and confidence.

Therapy for LGBTQIA x Faith & Spirituality

Living in a heteronormative world that constantly reinforces the message that heterosexuality is the only acceptable norm can be deeply isolating, taking a significant toll on the mental health of LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Navigating these societal pressures alone is never easy. Whether you are currently embracing your LGBTQIA+ identity or having relationship issues with your partner or struggling with self-acceptance due to your involvement in religious communities or just need an affirmative therapist to provide a safe space, I am here to support you.

Having earned a B.A. in Christian Education, worked at an LGBTQIA+-affirmative center, and completed my clinical training at
Antioch University, the birthplace of LGBTQIA+-affirmative therapy, I bring a deeply integrated understanding to those navigating the complex intersection of faith and queer identity.

Together, we will work toward genuine self-acceptance, validating and normalizing your unique experiences.

My ultimate goal is to provide a welcoming and affirming space where you feel empowered to live authentically. As we collaboratively re-author your lifeโ€™s narrative, you will find the freedom to embrace and celebrate exactly who you are.

It is truly a privilege and my honor to witness clients’ growth, gaining deeper understanding that leads to self-compassion and acceptance.
